Quick Verdict

As of July 27, 2026, the Edrin titanium carabiner-first knife scores 74/100 (Medium-Low) on our Trust Meter v2.0: a successfully funded but small Kickstarter — HK$138,390 (about US$17,600) from 159 backers against a HK$20,000 goal — run by first-time Hong Kong account MR.GADGET, which has now missed its June 2026 delivery estimate. The creator confirmed units were still in production on or about July 22.

A correction up front: an earlier version of this page reported $85,000 raised from 1,400 backers by a creator called "Edrin Gear," with $49/$89 pledge tiers. None of that survived verification against the live campaign page and Kicktraq. The real figures are roughly one-fifth the pledged amount, one-ninth the backer count, and a different creator name.

Trust Dimension Breakdown

Scores below are from our scoring machinery (Trust Meter v2.0, last updated 2026-07-21). Prose in this review defers to these numbers. Note the timing: the score predates public evidence that the June delivery estimate slipped; any change will come from the scoring machinery, not from this page.

The shape of the 74 is easy to read: the product itself is low-tech and manufacturable (titanium CNC machining, no electronics), which carries Technical Feasibility to 90. What drags the score down is everything around the product — an unproven creator account, standard-at-best communication, and ordinary small-batch supply-chain risk. That is exactly the part of the record that has since gotten worse, not better.

Funding Record

The percentage looks dramatic; the absolute number is not. A HK$20,000 (~US$2,550) goal is a marketing floor, not a production budget — roughly 250 units' worth of revenue at the single-unit price funded this project.

What the Product Claims

Per the campaign page and launch press (New Atlas, 2026-01-30; Yanko Design, 2026-02-13): a carabiner-format 6-in-1 tool in Grade 5 titanium with carbon fiber inlays — locking D2 steel folding blade, magnetic 4mm bit driver with a pre-installed PH0 bit, bottle opener, nail puller, emergency glass breaker, and six slots for optional tritium vials (sold separately as add-ons). Claimed 3.29 in long, 1.54 oz.

Two limitations the creator has confirmed in public comment replies, visible on the comments page:

• Not travel-compliant. Asked whether the blade is removable and market-blade-compatible for air travel, the creator answered that the project is "more focused on everyday, ground-based use" rather than "blade replacement or travel compliance." The asking backer's pledge is shown as canceled. An earlier version of this page listed "TSA-compliant (blade removable)" as a feature; the creator's own words contradict that, and we have removed it.
• Tritium vials ship uninstalled and are not included with the base unit, per the creator (shipping-regulation reasons).

A later backer question asking which manufacturer's replacement blades fit had no public creator reply as of July 27, 2026.

Evidence Timeline

Delivery Status

Campaign ended: yes (February 28, 2026). Shipped: no.

Every reward tier listed an estimated delivery of June 2026 with worldwide shipping included (rewards page). As of July 27, 2026 the creator's own comment reply says the product is still in production, with the next update promised for early August. That makes the project about a month past its estimate with no revised ship date published.

The communication pattern is mixed. On one hand, four updates in five months is roughly monthly, and the creator does answer comments. On the other, all four updates are backers-only — there is no public fulfillment record — and several backer questions over the March–June stretch drew only boilerplate ("We will provide updates as soon as possible") before the July 22 acknowledgment. One backer thanked the creator for "being transparent about the delay," which tells you backers were told something; non-backers, including us, cannot read it.

Pricing Reality

All prices are in HKD, the campaign's native currency, with Kickstarter's approximate USD conversions.

Source: rewards page, read 2026-07-27. The advertised discounts are against a claimed US$109-per-unit MSRP; the product has no retail history, so that MSRP is a creator assertion, not a market price. Anyone late-pledging today at HK$615 (~US$79) is joining a delivery queue that is already past its estimate.

Who This Is For

• EDC collectors who like the carabiner-first format with a genuine locking blade — the design premise (the clip, not the blade, as the starting point) is the product's one real novelty, and press coverage engaged with it seriously.
• Backers comfortable with small-batch crowdfunding risk who treat ~US$79 as money they can wait on.

Who Should Pass

• Anyone who needs to fly with their EDC — the creator has said plainly this is a ground-based-use tool, and the blade is not marketed as removable for travel.
• Anyone who wants replaceable blades with known market compatibility; that question is publicly unanswered.
• Anyone uncomfortable backing a first-project account, or who wants a public (not backers-only) fulfillment record.
• Anyone who needs the tool soon: it is already late, with no revised date.

Red Flags Scan

Kill switches triggered: none, per the scoring machinery. Shell-company indicators: none recorded. Observations from this re-verification, for the record:

• First-project account claiming prior delivery experience. The Edrin creator account shows "First created" — no prior campaigns — while the campaign's timeline section says the schedule is "based on our experience delivering previous projects." Other titanium-EDC campaigns are published under the same MR.GADGET brand name on at least one separate Kickstarter account (for example The Wolf Fang, a 2023 campaign that raised $30,454 from 624 backers under account 2136210227, listed from Boston, MA — the Edrin account is listed from Hong Kong; we have not checked whether that project delivered). We have not verified that these accounts share an operator; whatever the truth, the delivery history being invoked does not attach to the account that took the money.
• Backers-only updates. All four post-campaign updates are locked; only their titles are public. This is legal and common, but it removes public accountability precisely during a delivery slip.
• Missed estimate, no revised date — covered above; this is the live risk on the record.
• Record hygiene on our side: the previous version of this page also carried a dead brand domain (edringear.com — does not resolve) and an invalid creator profile URL. Both have been removed.

Bottom Line

Edrin: 74/100, Medium-Low — a real, plausible, low-tech product from an unproven Kickstarter account, funded modestly (~US$17,600 from 159 backers) on January–February 2026, and now about a month past its June delivery estimate with units still reported in production. Nothing on the record suggests a scam; everything on the record suggests ordinary first-campaign delivery risk playing out on schedule. The early-August update the creator promised is the next checkpoint — if it brings a ship date, this record improves; if it is another check-in, the slip is compounding.
